Summer is the season for getting things done and if you are ready to get some DIY tasks out of the way this season, then this blog is just for you.
With enough time, the right tools and a good attitude, there are plenty of projects that you can take on by yourself. But just as there are many projects that you will quite successfully be able to do by yourself, there are also a load of tasks that are best avoided.
At Impala Plumbing and Electrical, we are an experienced team of plumbers, electricians and renovators. Our skill set is wide and varied, and we go out of our way to make sure that our clients have access to the best services, no matter whether they are large industry related or residential. And while we encourage our clients to always make use of our services, especially when they are unsure about taking the DIY route, we understand why you are keen on tackling some projects yourself. But in your haste to complete something on your own, there is always the option of giving us a call should things go unexpectedly wrong.
If the summer season has you ready to get stuck into home repairs and renovations, this is a list of the projects you can do and those that you might find are best left to someone else.

- Leave (most) electrical projects to the experts
All electrical projects (except for those that involve something as simple as changing a light bulb) can have an element of risk associated with them. Unless you yourself are a qualified electrician, it is possible that even a simple DIY project can leave you at risk of a nasty electric shock, or damage to your house. When in doubt, always phone the professionals.
- Look at the finer details
When doing a drastic project such as an addition to the home, it can be vitally important to have a look at things like the local laws and other types of regulations that could possibly upset your plans. There are loads of building codes to keep track of when you are building in town, so be sure to keep up with the regulations before you get building.
- Tackle the plumbing basics
Plumbing is not necessarily all that complicated, depending on the type of plumbing that needs doing. If the plumbing has to do with piping, especially piping within the walls, you might need to have a plumber come in and help you out, but if it is just a washer that needs replacing or tap that needs tightening, or even a drain that needs unblocking, you can do it on your own, so long as you have the right tools and a bit of helpful know how.
Before you undertake any kind of home project, it is important to know whether or not it is worth doing on your own. For complicated projects as well as those projects that might take a lot of materials, it can be worthwhile to hire a professional instead.
