But if you are keen to learn more about plumbing, here are some of the myths that you need to know are not true.
Myth 1: Flushable wipes can be flushed
There are a lot of wipes on the market that are sold as flushable, which means that if they are flushed when used, they technically shouldn’t end up clogging the toilet. But the branding is often a bit of a lie. If you were to flush every wipe you use, you will end up with backed up plumbing.
Myth 2: It is safe to pour hot oil down a drain
Hot oil is one of the trickier things to get rid of, and for the most part, the majority of people will simply pour it down the drain and then rinse the left overs with water. But the big issue with this is that the oil is only hot until it reaches the inside of the drain pipe. Once it is down the plug hole, it is going to cool down rapidly and this means some of it will remain on the inside of the pipe until eventually, it ends up blocking the drain completely.
Myth 3: Bleach is good for toilet cleaning
There is a bit of a yes and a no. Some people clean their toilets quite successfully with bleach while others will see that the bleach ends up doing more harm than good. Ideally, you should only clean your toilet with proper toilet cleaner.
Myth 4: Use a brick in your toilet to save water
Some people say that by placing a brick in the back of the toilet, you will be saving on water, but there is no truth to this. Instead, if you do this, you are actually preventing the toilet from flushing properly.
Myth 5: Drain cleaners are safe to use
Drain cleaners are sold in various shops and they are marketed as safe to use. But the truth is that often, drain cleaners are known to actually do damage to pipes, with the chemicals eating away through the metal of the pipe. If you are concerned, you can perhaps move away from the drain cleaners and find something more effective.
