From the owner’s point of view, there is very little thought and consideration given to the types of pipes that are used to connect the rather intricate plumbing system.

And why would you give it a second thought?

When you are working with plumbers in Nelspruit, you really wouldn’t need to think too much about your plumbing because everything is taken care of. But if you are the type who takes more of an interest in this sort of thing, then this blog is just for you.

As the plumbing industry has undergone numerous changes over the years, one of the bigger changes has to do with the type of pipes used. This means there are quite a few types of pipes used for plumbing. And each type of pipe has its pros and its cons.

The advancements of plumbing pipes has meant that pipes are not only more durable and capable of having a longer lifespan, but they have also meant that the water quality has been safer.

The Types of Plumbing Pipes

With so many plumbing pipes on the market these days, it is next to impossible to list each and every type. So instead, we’ll just be listing the most common types.

PVC Pipes

PVC pipes are made from polyvinyl chloride which is a plastic. These types of pipes are considered speciality pipes and they are most often used in sewage systems. They are ideally used in low temperature settings and they work best with low water pressure. For this reason, they are used for drains and even septic tanks. PVC pipes are also incredibly affordable because the materials they are made from are cheap.

Copper Pipes

Copper pipes are one of the oldest types of plumbing pipes and they are still commonly used to this day. Copper pipes are popular because they are durable and because they have absolutely no effect on the taste of the water, something that can happen with certain metal or plastic pipes. Copper pipes come in a range of styles but there are a few disadvantages associated with these pipes. Those who use copper pipes need to be weld them together and as such they can be difficult to install. These pipes can also be a little expensive.

Galvanised Pipes

A galvanised pipe is a steel pipe which has been covered in zinc, which helps to slow down any rust which might be inclined to form. These pipes have been a little controversial because there has been some concern about the effect on the safety of the water as the galvanised pipe would break down with the zinc turning into lead. For this reason, galvanised pipes are not used in plumbing anymore, although this type metal is used in the fittings of the pipe.
