The Steps to take when Fixing Low Water Pressure

Step 1

To get going, you will need to start by checking the water pressure of the whole house. To do this, you will need to buy or borrow a pressure gauge, which is relatively cheap. You will need to attach this to the hose bib. The easiest way to do this would be to go outside and attach it to the outdoor faucet pipe. The gauge should read between 40 and 60 if there is a pressure problem.

Step 2

Now that you have determined that there is indeed a water pressure problem, the next thing that you are going to need to do is to manually check where the problem might be. Start by checking if the outlet you are experiencing the low water pressure issue with has a blockage or is otherwise clogged. It is easier to do this if you are checking a shower, but you can also check the tap by pushing something up the faucet and moving it around to release whatever might be blocking it.

If there is a blockage, and you have been able to successfully remove it, the next step is to turn on the tap and check the pressure. If the water is flowing faster, you can then be sure that the issue has been fixed. But if the problem is still there, you might have a bigger issue on your hands.

Step 3

Call the plumber. The thing is, while there are ways that you can DIY the issue, sometimes the problem is deeper in the system than you think. It could be that the pressure valve on the geyser is causing the issue, or it could be something in the pipes in the wall. If either of these is the problem then you will need expert help in solving it.

You don’t have to DIY anything when you have Impala Plumbing and Electrical just a call away. We can assist you with problems of all shapes and sizes, ensuring that you don’t have to worry about your low water pressure becoming a major problem.
